Global Stories: Eros
The common journey of two people in the country of love doesn’t need to depend on anything. Lovers can walk together without touching the earth. The journey can “go with the wind”, riding a cloud. It can resemble thunder setting fire to individuality. “If we don’t melt together, how can we be as one?” declares the verse of a Greek song. When two become one, any transient absence brings agony. This by no means should be translated as jealousy. It is a different kind of agony, one that resembles a prayer: “Why is he late? Is he stuck in traffic? What if something’s wrong? Oh God, let’s hope everything is fine…” Anytime the beloved one arrives, his/her smile acts like a tranquilizer, his/her inner self is filled with his/her presence, spring flourishes in the heart. Next scene: The embracing couple in the realm of fire. Eyes wide-open, staring like they have never seen each other before. Odors, touching, caresses… What true lovers feel is so immobilizing that they can’t even realize what is really obvious: A love affair is actually a mystagogy. The joining of the bodies is also a joining of the souls. Each kiss holds its own unique light, much stronger than the camera’s flash. Text: © Giorgos Xepapadakos. Photographs: © Maro Kouri

Global Stories: Women
I photograph the women next door, capturing moments of their daily lives during my assignments all over the world. Fighters in their own right, in the job, family and love. Even if sometimes they become victims of violence and usage, they are hopeful, optimistic and smiling to my camera lens. Text & Photographs: © Maro Kouri

Global Stories: Kids
Children. The future of humanity and civilization’s lost bet whenever they are hungry or in pain. Children. In a world cut into pieces: first, second third… However, kids’ laughter when they play is the same everywhere, from Luxemburg to Soweto and from Israel to Bombay…Shortcuts of the universe, from children’s debonair happy play and unending innocence. Scenes of happiness even under difficult living conditions, especially in countries of excessive misery, where laughter is even more precious because of its rareness.
